Originally founded in 1962 by Bryce D. Jewett Sr., Jewett Machine Manufacturing Company began as a custom machine shop, serving the local Richmond tobacco and optical industries. As Jewett Machine grew their capabilities to service the region's custom machining needs, they recognized the increasing demand for custom machine design services. This recognized need evolved over the early years and through the 1970's into a group within Jewett Machine designing and delivering small (and some large) custom machine design solutions. In 1984 the increasing demand for robotic and automation systems led Bryce Sr. to create Jewett Automation as an independent entity focused on serving the growing needs of this industry.

Today Jewett Machine and Jewett Automation represent significant resources to the custom machining and automation industries. Jewett Machine continues to offer precision machining services to the automotive, aerospace, medical and other mid to high volume markets while Jewett Automation has since grown and expanded to deliver literally hundreds of custom, turnkey factory automation systems for a wide range of industries and clients. Many of Jewett Automation's clients include Fortune 500 companies from the Telecom, Automotive, Medical, and Consumer Products and other industrial markets.
